Where do I enter for Race to the Sun?

How much are the entries?
  • Solo R900
  • Team of Two complete distance R1800
  • Team of 4 complete distance R3600
  • Team of Two Relay (2 stages) Each stage is approx. 80km R1600
  • Team of Four Relay (2 stages) Each stage is approx. 80km R3200

Do I need a mtb or road bike?
We allow Gravel road bikes into this event, modifications to your Mountain Bikes are welcome as long as they are safe for yourself and fellow competitors. (Rigid forks and hard tails will be fine, little to no corrugation roads) Although there are parts on the tar road, a road bike will not be able to handle the rest of the route
Do I need a GPS device?

GPS devices are compulsory, you need to be able to navigate the route with the supplied GPS maps. Basic markings will be in place, with route marshals along the way at any danger areas. A GPS device is compulsory. If you have any questions regarding certain points, please contact info@advedurance.com

When and where will registration be?
Registration will take place Friday, 03 August 3018. Venue to be confirmed closer to the time. Emails will also be communicated the 1st of August with all the venue details, start times etc. Each rider will receive a goody bag to the value of R500.

What is a SASeeding timing board, and why do I need one?
The SASeeding time board is used to monitor your time throughout the race. The cost is R60 per board. If you already own a SASeeding timing board, please bring along to registration.

RACE DAY

Where do we start?
At the Hartebeespoort High School: The race will have a neutral start; through town and tunnel; to have the official start on the Hartebeespoort Dam Wall. You will need a GPS device to navigate the route to Sun City.
What time will the race begin?

The race will start from 07:00am. The first riders are expected at Sun City at about 11h30.

Solo Riders – 7:00 am

Teams of two – 7:20 am

Teams of four – 7:40 am

Relay teams of two & four – 8:00

How do I get my car to Sun City?

The family can hop along and follow you throughout the route or enjoy the day at Sun City. Relay teams can drop off the first team member at drop off point 1 (Hartebeespoort High School) and meet along the handover point (NG Church Beestekraal).

What is the qualifying time?
The qualifying time is 15km/h. Shuttle vehicles will be able to assist riders on route to the water stations or Sun City.
When will the results be communicated?
A SMS will be sent out on the day confirming your time. Should you encounter any problems or not receive the message, please email info@jumpertrax.com.
Where are the water points?
Each water point will be an oasis with cold drinks, ice, and plenty of food. Supporters are allowed to feed the riders during race. Each water point is also a spectator point. Water point 2 is where relay teams will hand over to the next member(s).

Water point 2: NG Church Beestekraal at 85km

Water point 3: After Bojateng at about 120km

What happens if I get lost?

Emergency vehicles will be on standby. MySOS app will be used to track your location and send assistance ASAP.

Are there any podium prizes?

Yes. To be confirmed. Prizes will also be handed out for the best dressed teams.

RELAY TEAMS

How many members are allowed in a relay team?
Teams consist of two or four members.

Team of two – first rider will start at Hartebeespoort High School and second rider at NG Church Beestekraal at 85km.

How do I get my car to Sun City?
Relay teams can drop off the first team member(s) at drop off point 1 (Hartebeespoort High School) and meet along the first handover point (NG Church Beestekraal at 85km). The first rider will drive the car to Sun City where they will meet the last part of the relay team.
Where is the handover point?
The first handover point for relay teams is at NG Church Beestekraal which marks the 85-kilometre mark. Here your timing chip will be scanned, and your teammates will start.
What if my partner doesn’t finish, will I still get a medal?
Yes. If any partners of a relay team don’t finish or complete the race, you will automatically receive a medal at the end.
On the day: What if we want to do the whole distance?

We will commend your endurance. Be sure to inform route officials at the finish line of your decision.

What facilities are available at the spectator points?
Entertainment, food stalls & live coverage of the event.
Are there discounts for spectators waiting at Sun City?
Accommodation discounts is sent to riders, where they will be able to book for the entire family to join in on the action.
How do I get the preferential rates at Sun City?
A preferential rates booking code via email once a rider has registered for the race.
